OpenAI Wants Advertisers To Prompt To Create Ads & Skip Agencies

12 Şubat 2026 saat 15:51

Asad Awan Openai

Asad Awan, who is in charge of monetization at OpenAI was interviewed by his own company on "The Thinking Behind Ads in ChatGPT." It is a 25 minute interview and one part he discusses how he would like to see advertisers simply prompt to create ads and ad campaigns and not have to hire an agency or "performance marketers" to run ads on ChatGPT.

Asad said at about 21 minutes in:

I do think the vision has to be where almost as easy as you were prompting nowadays for questions. You could say my goal is sell these shoes more in Midwest and go, And then it comes back. It's like hey I tried some experiments and I think this is the right bid given your price point. This is the right way to doing that. Do you want to spend more money on this? And then you continue that conversation and almost become an agent for that.

He goes on to discuss the traditional method:

But today literally a small business has to hire performance marketers which could be one of the biggest costs in some sense actually like you know just that cost of running ads through through that is actually one of the biggest costs in there. Which of course then makes things more expensive. So I think the vision would be that it is as easy as just steering and telling what you need from your business. So describing the what but not having to think about how it will work and how many campaigns and how much dollars and everything else is like hey I want to spend this much I want to grow my business this much these are the constraints and ads are created and run to match your constraints in some sense.

He was then asked about the next steps on how do ads even work 10 years from now? He said at about 24 minutes in:

I think a next step would be more actual conversational ads where you could truly kind of understand what this product is about. The next version would be can it work behind the scenes and actually aggregate the best discounts and best deals and the best version of the product. Like for example, if I know that I like ramen and let's say some somehow ChatGPT has understood that preference of mine, then it could find that for me. I didn't even know that that product exists. Then in behind the scenes, it could actually say, "Oh, actually I found this vegan ramen. Maybe that's something that's valuable." And of course, uh there is a marketplace where somebody could say, "Hey, help people who are like this to discover because discovery goes from both directions, right? like of course I'm searching for something and then people want me to discover something and there's a match between those. SoI think it will be more agentic but in the future but at least the current modalities I think we start from there improve it and make it relevant make it controllable understandable trustworthy and as I think the systems evolve the native the organic products evolve this will evolve as well with that.

Here is the video embed:

Hat tip to Glenn Gabe for pulling this out but of course, not all marketing agencies agree with this:

Lol will work perfectly im sure!!!! LOL No chance that the ai tells the advertiser that the pre opted in settings are best for this! And they actually are not but are designed to drain their ad budget. That would NEVER happen! All big tech companies can be trusted entirely end to'...

Google AI Mode Launches UCP-Powered Checkout

12 Şubat 2026 saat 15:41

Google Commerce

Google is rolling out UCP, Universal Commerce Protocol, powered checkout in AI Mode. This launched as part of the Google Ads news from yesterday, and you can now see it in AI Mode for products from Etsy and Wayfair.

Google wrote "In fact, UCP-powered checkout is rolling out now, letting US shoppers buy items from Etsy and Wayfair, right in AI Mode in Search and the Gemini app (with Shopify, Target, and Walmart coming soon)."

And yes, folks like Glenn Gabe and Brodie Clark are noticing it in the wild as of yesterday and today. For some reason, I don't see it yet, but I suspect I might soon.

Here is a screenshot from Glenn Gabe who posted on X, "Yep, it's live. Wow. Big news for ecommerce, for Google, and AI search. You can see a buy button in the first screenshot and then the checkout process right in AI Mode."

Here are his screenshots:

Google Ucp Powered Checkout In Ai Mode2

Brodie Clark posted on X, "I've now experienced it for Wayfair's free listing results, where a prominent 'Buy' button appears on the item, allowing you to purchase it directly from search results."

Here are some of his screenshots:

Google added, "UCP's potential extends far beyond retail. It's helping to lay the foundation for a future where all commercial experiences can be seamless and agentic."

Here are Google's screenshots showing a step-by-step view of the UCP-powered shopping journey, illustrating how users can discover and purchase an item from Wayfair directly within AI Mode.

Google AdSense Adds New Triggers For Vignette Ads

12 Şubat 2026 saat 15:31

Google Adsense Vign

Google AdSense has added additional triggers for vignette ads. There are now a total of six triggers, three old ones and three new ones. These new triggers took effect on February 9, 2026.

Google wrote, "Starting February 9, 2026, we'll add a new control called Allow additional triggers for vignette ads in your Auto ads settings. This control will manage both the new and existing ways that vignettes are triggered. These changes are designed to unlock incremental revenue by identifying additional high-value impression opportunities."

Here are the new triggers:

  • Reaches the end of a page's main article element and either they start scrolling back up, or 5 seconds elapse on mobile or 10 seconds on desktop.
  • Is inactive for at least 30 seconds followed by user interaction (the timer starts after the last user interaction'"for example, a scroll or click).
  • Navigates backward using their browser's back button on supported browsers (currently Chrome, Edge, and Opera).

The existing triggers are:

  • Unhides a tab/window (for example, when they revisit a tab/window after going to another tab/window, revisit a tab/window after unlocking the device screen, or maximize a window after minimizing it)
  • Clicks the browser's navigation bar (desktop only)
  • Opens a page within the same site in a new browser tab and then switches to that tab.

Google also posted these things to know:

  • 1-month review period: While the new setting will appear in your account as turned on (checked) starting February 9, 2026, it will not affect your site's actual ad delivery for one month. During this period, your existing vignette behavior will remain unchanged.
  • Automatic activation: You have the option to opt out, but if you take no action during the review period, the new triggers will automatically activate on March 9, 2026.
  • Guardrails: We will continue to respect your existing frequency cap settings (e.g., minimum time between vignette ads showing up) to ensure a balanced user experience.
  • Opting out: You can opt out at any time. However, note that disabling this control will also turn off the existing triggers.

Google Ads New AI Mode Shopping Ad & Veo 3 Is In Asset Studio

12 Şubat 2026 saat 15:21

Google Ads Cards Ai

Google announced a new ad unit for AI Mode for shopping ads which promotes retailers. Google also launched Veo 3 support in Google Ads Asset Studio. Plus Vidhya Srinivasan, VP/GM of Ads & Commerce at Google, published her annual letter to the industry on the Google blog.

New AI Mode Ad

Vidhya wrote, "Now, we're testing a new ad format to showcase retailers that offer those products, clearly marked as sponsored. This new format helps shoppers easily find convenient buying options, and offers retailers the opportunity to show up in these key moments of consideration. We are testing similar formats in categories beyond retail, like travel, to help people find relevant products and services."

The other new mention in this letter is that Veo 3 support is in Google Ads Asset Studio. "This is helping advertisers produce studio-quality work in minutes, effectively making AI a real-time creative partner for businesses. Adoption is accelerating, proving that generative media is now a scalable reality: In 2025, we saw a 3x increase in Gemini-generated assets created by advertisers, and in Q4 alone, Gemini was used to generate nearly 70 million creative assets in AI Max and Performance Max," she wrote.

Google Releases Early Preview Of WebMCP

12 Şubat 2026 saat 15:11

Webmcp

The Google Chrome team announced its early preview of WebMCP, "a standard way for exposing structured tools, ensuring AI agents can perform actions on your side with increased speed, reliability, and precision," André Cipriani Bandarra from Google wrote.

WebMCP basically gives you a way to communicate via your website to LLMs what actions certain buttons or links take on your website. WebMCP is designed to help AI agents interact with websites.

Currently, if an AI agent (like a browser assistant) wants to "book a flight" or "add an item to a cart" on a website, it often has to guess which buttons to click by looking at the pixels or HTML (screen scraping). This is error-prone.

WebMCP fixes this by allowing websites to explicitly publish a "Tool Contract." It uses a new browser API (navigator.modelContext). Instead of the AI guessing, the website provides a structured list of tools (e.g., function buyTicket(destination, date)). The AI can then "call" these functions directly.

André Cipriani Bandarra from Google explained, "By defining these tools, you tell agents how and where to interact with your site, whether it's booking a flight, filing a support ticket, or navigating complex data. This direct communication channel eliminates ambiguity and allows for faster, more robust agent workflows."

WebMCP proposes two new APIs that allow browser agents to take action on behalf of the user:

  • Declarative API: Perform standard actions that can be defined directly in HTML forms.
  • Imperative API: Perform complex, more dynamic interactions that require JavaScript execution.
  • These APIs serve as a bridge, making your website "agent-ready" and enabling more reliable and performant agent workflows compared to raw DOM actuation.

Dan Petrovic called this the biggest shift in technical SEO since structured data. Glenn Gabe called this a big deal.

SEOs should 100% read up on this...

Bing Webmaster Tools Rolls Out AI Performance Report (With New Design)

11 Şubat 2026 saat 15:51

Bing Ai Analytics

A couple of weeks ago, I reported that Bing was beta testing a new AI performance report within Bing Webmaster Tools. These reports are now available as a public preview for all to see.

Plus, Bing Webmaster Tools has a whole new slick design. I actually like it a lot.

Microsoft's Krishna Madhavan, Meenaz Merchant, Fabrice Canel, and Saral Nigam announced:

We are happy to introduce AI Performance in Bing Webmaster Tools, a new set of insights that shows how publisher content appears across Microsoft Copilot, AI-generated summaries in Bing, and select partner integrations. For the first time, you can understand how often your content is cited in generative answers, with clear visibility into which URLs are referenced and how citation activity changes over time.

I was not able to show you what that report looked like, until now, because now anyone can see it at bing.com/webmasters/aiperformance. Here is a screenshot:

Bing Ai Performance Dashboard

Here is what you see:

  • Total Citations: Shows the total number of citations that are displayed as sources in AI-generated answers during the selected time frame. This highlights how often your content is referenced by AI systems, without indicating placement or presentation within a specific answer.
  • Average Cited Pages: Shows the average number of unique pages from your site that are displayed as sources in AI-generated answers per day over the selected time range. Because the data is aggregated across supported AI surfaces, average cited pages reflect overall citation patterns and does not indicate ranking, authority, or the role of any page within an individual answer.
  • Grounding queries: Shows the key phrases the AI used when retrieving content that was referenced in AI-generated answers. The data shown represents a sample of overall citation activity. We will continue to refine this metric as additional data is processed.
  • Page-level citation activity: Shows citation counts for specific URLs from your site, making it easy to see which individual pages are most often referenced across AI-generated answers during the selected date range. This reflects how often pages are cited, not page importance, ranking, or placement.
  • Visibility trends over time: The timeline shows how citation activity for your site changes over time across supported AI experiences, making it easier to spot trends at a glance.

And nope, no click data, as I said a couple of weeks ago.

The grounding queries is confusing folks - but those do not seem to be the actual queries users are searching but what Bing uses to "retrieving content that was referenced in AI-generated answers." So Copilot takes your long query and then breaks it down into shorter ones, it is probably that. But it also seems like that metric is stil being refined by Bing.

Plus, this data is not in the API yet. Fabrice Canel from Microsoft said on X, "With this preview, the data is not yet available via the API. Enabling data in our API is on our backlog, and we'll take your feedback along with others, into account when prioritizing next release."

Fabrice Canel from Microsoft said on X, "We just dropped the AI Performance report into public preview in Bing Webmaster Tools." He did hint that more data is coming, he said, "It's just a preview, you will get more in 2026."

Would You Give Google Your ID Numbers To Remove Results About You

11 Şubat 2026 saat 15:41

Google Eraser

Google announced a number of updates to help people find and remove personal information and sensitive imagery about themselves from Google. But you would need to give Google this information first, so Google can find it and then remove it.

The Results about you feature asks you to add your driver's license, passport, or Social Security number. Google said, "To keep your sensitive information safe, 'Results about you' employs Google's rigorous security protocols and advanced encryption to prevent misuse and ensure your privacy."

Once you have given Google your information and Google confirmed your details, Google will automatically track it for you going forward. Then if something match, Google will notify you if it finds any search results containing that information.

Here are some screenshots:

Google Results About You

Google Results About You2

Google Results About You3

Google did clarify that "removing this information from Google Search doesn't remove it from the web entirely, but this is an important step in helping you stay in control of your online presence and keep your private information private."

Then there is the new way to remove explicit images from the web. To access this tool, click on the three dots on an image, select 'remove result,' then select 'It shows a sexual image of me.' Plus you can now submit multiple images at once. And Google said you can opt in so that Google will proactively filter out any additional explicit results that might appear in similar searches.

But as Glenn Gabe asked, will you be willing to give Google this information in exchange for this? I suspect many will?

Google's 'Results about you' tool expands to protect your social security number, passport info and driver's license. But you have to give Google that info first. Interesting dilemma :)

Google Clarifies Google's Crawler File Size Limits Doc Again

11 Şubat 2026 saat 15:31

Google Web

Earlier this month, we reported that Google updated two of its help documents around Google's crawler file size limits. Well, Google made a clarification to one of those documents the other day after some confusion within the SEO industry.

This was the help document that was updated and it specifically says now "a Google crawler like Googlebot may have a smaller size limit (for example, 2MB), or specify a larger file size limit for a PDF than for HTML."

The new version reads:

By default, Google's crawlers and fetchers only crawl the first 15MB of a file, and any content beyond this limit is ignored. However, individual projects may set different limits for their crawlers and fetchers, and also for different file types. For example, a Google crawler like Googlebot may have a smaller size limit (for example, 2MB), or specify a larger file size limit for a PDF than for HTML.

The older version read:

By default, Google's crawlers and fetchers only crawl the first 15MB of a file. Any content beyond this limit is ignored. Individual projects may set different limits for their crawlers and fetchers, and also for different file types. For example, a Google crawler may set a larger file size limit for a PDF than for HTML.

This change was made a couple of days ago.

Google Business Short Names Being Removed From Business Profiles

11 Şubat 2026 saat 15:11

Google Maps

Google will stop showing the business short names on Google Business Profiles in Search and Google Maps. The short name will still work, if you have one, but going forward, the link in your Google Business Profile will no longer be displayed to you or searchers.

Dan Boguslavsky posted this news in the Google Business Profile Forums - he wrote, "We want to let you know about an upcoming change to the business short name feature regarding the ability to create short, custom URLs, for example g.page/YourBusinessName."

Short names will no longer be displayed on the Business Profile, and customers can no longer report or flag them. This change is part of our ongoing efforts to simplify the product experience.

Also, keep in mind that businesses are currently unable to create new short names or edit existing ones.

Here is a summary of this announcement:

  • Short names and URLs that already exist will still work but will no longer be shown on the Business Profile to customers.
  • You and your customers will no longer see an option to report an existing Short Name.
  • Short names and URLs that already exist will still work.

Google introduced this feature in 2019 and started to display them on your profiles shortly later.

Daily Search Forum Recap: February 10, 2026

10 Şubat 2026 saat 18:00

Here is a recap of what happened in the search forums today, through the eyes of the Search Engine Roundtable and other search forums on the web.

OpenAI's ChatGPT ads go live with user ad controls. We are also seeing the start of more Google ranking volatility. Google is testing citation icons at the bottom of the AI Mode results. Google Ads PMax A/B testing is rolling out. Grokipedia is seeing a big drop in its search visibility. Bing is testing dynamic search results count under the search box.

Search Engine Roundtable Stories:

  • OpenAI ChatGPT Ads Go Live With User Ad Controls
OpenAI has officially launched ads in ChatGPT yesterday. The company announced, "Today, we're beginning to test ads in ChatGPT in the U.S. The test will be for logged-in adult users on the Free and Go subscription tiers. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education tiers will not have ads."
  • Google Search Ranking Volatility Gets Heated Again February 10th
I am seeing some early signs of yet another unconfirmed Google Search ranking update with more volatility touching down today, February 10th. The chatter within the SEO community is starting to spike, and some of the third-party tracking tools are showing volatility.
  • Grokipedia Seeing Decline In Google Search Visibility
There are some reports coming out that Grokipedia, the AI-based Wikipedia, is now showing a decline in search visibility in both Google and even ChatGPT. This comes after both an indexing and ranking surge in Google Search.
  • Google Ads Performance Max A/B Experiments In The Wild
A month ago, we reported on a new help document on Google Ads for Performance Max optimization experiments: A/B testing assets beta. Well, now some are seeing this in the wild, where you can set up these A/B tests in a controlled environment.
  • Google AI Mode Tests Citation Icons At Bottom Of Answers
Google appears to be testing showing the citation favicon site icons at the bottom of the answer in AI Mode. This is in addition to where it normally shows those icons, at the top right of the card stack, on the side of the answer response.
  • Bing Tests Dynamic Results Count Under Search Box
Microsoft Bing is testing a dynamically loading results count under the search box. So when you enter your search phrase, the results count will dynamically count up from 0 to the number of results found.
  • The Old Bing Bellevue Building 12 Man Sign For Seahawks
Did you know that about a decade ago, the old Microsoft Bing office would make it so its building had a massive 12 sign so that Seattle Seahawks fans could see the 12 for miles and miles.

Google Search Ranking Volatility Gets Heated Again February 10th

10 Şubat 2026 saat 16:18

Google Fire Cold Logo

I am seeing some early signs of yet another unconfirmed Google Search ranking update with more volatility touching down today, February 10th. The chatter within the SEO community is starting to spike, and some of the third-party tracking tools are showing volatility.

This seems unrelated to the February 2026 Google Discover core update, which started on February 5th.

Previously we had volatilioty during February 2nd, January 29th onwayrds and then around January 26th/27th, then January 21st, January 15th, January 12th and January 6th. Prior to that, we had the Google December 2025 core update kick off on December 11, 2025 at around 12:25 pm ET and ended on December 29, 2025 at around 2:05 pm ET. It had two spikes, one on December 13th and the other on December 20th.

Sadly, Google is not commenting on these unconfirmed updates, but we did see some evidence of Google going after self-serving listicles with those previously unconfirmed updates. And Glenn Gabe believes it was beyond listicles and was a Google reviews system, formerly product reviews system, of sorts.

SEO Chatter

Let's start with some of the chatter within the SEO industry from WebmasterWorld and here:

Whiplash from all the head-shaking over the nonsense this Google update is causing right now

I had proper Discover traffic again, but general rankings are going up and down. If I didn't know better, I'd say Google's systems are running amok.

Since yesterday traffic is in free fall. User engagement: 0 Zombies: 100% Bots: up again

We're so depressed of the bad traffic (in more ways than one), that we are still in the Jan 2026 instead of a new Feb 26 post.

The downward swings are just so wild that you just loose complete hope in what you are doing. The recalibration or as we used to say in the earlier days Google Dance has started once again.

Google Tracking Tools

Just look at how heated most of these tracking tools are. Note, I updated some of these charts the next day to show more of the volatility.

Google Ads Performance Max A/B Experiments In The Wild

10 Şubat 2026 saat 15:51

Google Ads Flare

A month ago, we reported on a new help document on Google Ads for Performance Max optimization experiments: A/B testing assets beta. Well, now some are seeing this in the wild, where you can set up these A/B tests in a controlled environment.

Matteo Braghetta posted about this on LinkedIn (hat tip Adrian Dekker) and he wrote, "Google is rolling out controlled A/B testing for creatives directly inside Performance Max. You can now test two asset sets in a single asset group, with a defined traffic split and experiment structure."

Here is his screenshot showing this in the Google Ads interface:

Google Ads Performance Max A B Experiments

He also posted how it all works:

  • Select a Performance Max campaign and one asset group
  • Define:
  • - Assets A = control (existing live assets)
  • - Assets B = treatment (new or alternative creatives)
  • Common assets = shared assets that keep serving in both variants
  • - Set the traffic split between A and B (e.g., 50/50)
  • - Launch the experiment and let it run for the recommended duration (typically 4'"6 weeks)
  • - Monitor experiment results and apply the winning asset set to the asset group

Grokipedia Seeing Decline In Google Search Visibility

10 Şubat 2026 saat 15:41

Grokipedia Home

There are some reports coming out that Grokipedia, the AI-based Wikipedia, is now showing a decline in search visibility in both Google and even ChatGPT. This comes after both an indexing and ranking surge in Google Search.

Glenn Gabe grabbed some data from both Sistrix and Semrush and it shows that while there was a huge ranking bump peaking into January, that in the past week or so, that has been dropping quickly. Glenn wrote on X, "Grokipedia has started to drop pretty heavily with the latest volatility."

Here are those charts and I am told, it is still declining even as of yesterday:

Grokipedia Sistrix

Grokipedia Semrush

Then when I even search for [Grokipedia] signed out of my browser, I see Wikipedia ranking above Grokipedia's own web site - not sure how widespread that is:

Google Ranking Wikipedia Above Grokipedia

Malte Landwehr from Peec.AI also showed on LinkedIn a decline not just in core search but also across Google's AI results and even OpenAI's ChatGPT results. Malte wrote, "I can confirm the same for ChatGPT, AI Mode, and AI Overviews. All three answer engines started to recommend Grokipedia less often in late January / early February. The same time when Grokipedia lost visibility in Google!"

Here are those charts showing AI Mode, AI Overviews and ChatGPT visibility:

Grokipedia Aioverviews Peek

Grokipedia Chatgpt Peek

Is this a blip or part of a new Google trend?

OpenAI ChatGPT Ads Go Live With User Ad Controls

10 Şubat 2026 saat 15:31

Chatgpt

OpenAI has officially launched ads in ChatGPT yesterday. The company announced, "Today, we're beginning to test ads in ChatGPT in the U.S. The test will be for logged-in adult users on the Free and Go subscription tiers. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education tiers will not have ads."

Here is a screenshot from OpenAI:

Chatgpt Ads

Advertisers can sign up at openai.com/advertisers.

With this, there is a section where users control their search history, interests, change the personalization settings and delete ads data.

This was spotted earlier by Juozas KaziukÄ-nas, which I spotted on Marketing O' Clock this week. Juozas shared this screenshot on LinkedIn:

Openai Chatgpt Ad Controls

Juozas added:

This settings panel also reveals that:

  • History tab shows "Ads you view in ChatGPT will appear here."
  • Interests tab shows "As you interact and give feedback on ads, your interests will be saved here." Each ad in ChatGPT has a hide button and separately a report button. (not unlike other ad platforms)
  • The two above data sets can be deleted separately from the rest of ChatGPT data.
  • Ads personalization is optional "When turned off, you'll still see ads based on your current chat but they may not be as relevant to you." When this is turned on, history and interests data from above is used. Deleting it affects personalization. With personalization off ads are contextual to the conversation.
  • Ads can be further personalized through memory "Use past conversations to make the ads you see more relevant. Your chats and memories are never shared with advertisers." Mine is greyed-out because I have memory disabled on the account.

OpenAI wrote, "You can control the ads you see in ChatGPT, including dismissing ads, sharing feedback, learning how and why you're being shown a particular ad, deleting your ad data with one tap, and managing ad personalization at any time."

Again, advertisers can sign up at openai.com/advertisers.

Google AI Mode Tests Citation Icons At Bottom Of Answers

10 Şubat 2026 saat 15:21

Google Ai Answer Boxes

Google appears to be testing showing the citation favicon site icons at the bottom of the answer in AI Mode. This is in addition to where it normally shows those icons, at the top right of the card stack, on the side of the answer response.

This was spotted by Sachin Patel who posted on X and shared a number of screenshots. Here is one of them, and as you can see, those icon favicon links are in both spots in this test:

Google Ai Mode Favicon Links Bottom

Again, normally it just shows on the right side above the link cards and not at the bottom.

I cannot replicate this:

is that AI Mode? I am only seeing it at the top right pic.twitter.com/tvONgFTtvM

Bing Tests Dynamic Results Count Under Search Box

10 Şubat 2026 saat 15:11

Bing Search

Microsoft Bing is testing a dynamically loading results count under the search box. So when you enter your search phrase, the results count will dynamically count up from 0 to the number of results found.

This seems cute and interactive and also a bit gimmicky, but it is cute.

This was spotted by Frank Sandtmann who posted an example on LinkedIn - he wrote, "In a playful move, Bing added a dynamic result count to its pages."

Here is what I see:

Bing Results Count Dynamic

Here is his post with his video, which looks a bit more normal for a results count:

Daily Search Forum Recap: February 9, 2026

9 Şubat 2026 saat 18:00

Here is a recap of what happened in the search forums today, through the eyes of the Search Engine Roundtable and other search forums on the web.

Google AI Overviews is testing new contextual overlay link cards. Google's John Mueller gave advice on if a new website can beat and old website in SEO. Google's preferred sources deeplink feature is broken. Google Ads API developer token applications are delayed. And Reddit spoke about AI citations from Google and ChatGPT in its earnings call.

Search Engine Roundtable Stories:

  • Google On If A Younger Web Site Can Beat An Older Website In Search
A thread at Reddit asked if a one-year-old website can beat a four-year-old website in SEO and perform better in Google Search. John Mueller from Google answered with his classic "it depends."
  • Google AI Overviews Tests Contextual Overlay Link Cards
Over the past week or so, Google has been testing a new format for link cards in the AI Overviews within Google Search. When you place your mouse cursor over a link clip icon, a new overlay will show you the page/site cards that line of text is being sourced from.
  • Google Preferred Sources Deeplink Button Is Broken
The Google preferred sources deeplink button feature is broken and has been since at least last Wednesday. When you click on a button to make a site a preferred source, such as for this site, it does not pre-fill in the site's URL in the box, as it should. You can retype it in the box but it does not pre-fill it for you.
  • Google Ads API Developer Token Access Applications Delayed
Google announced on Friday that there is a delay with the Google Ads team reviewing and thus approving developer token access applications. This is because Google is "seeing significant interest in the developer community for Google Ads API access, and are receiving an increase in developer token access applications," the company said.
  • Reddit On Google & ChatGPT AI Responses Citations & Lack Of Links
On the Reddit Q4 2025 Earnings Call (see transcript here), Steve Huffman, the CEO of Reddit, was asked about how he feels about how Google and OpenAI link or use citations to link to Reddit's content. Overall, Steve made it sound like the interfaces are adapting quickly and he is hopeful they will drive traffic to the conversation (within Reddit) in the future.
  • 1955 Ford F-100 At GooglePlex
This 1955 Ford F-100, a classic pickup truck, was parked at the GooglePlex, the main Google headquarters in Mountain View, California. I am not sure what that sticker is on the windshield; it might be some sort of parking violation.
