Bing Shopping Tests AI-Based Recommendations

30 Mart 2026 saat 14:21

Blue Robot Shopping

Bing is testing a new AI-based recommendations section in the Shopping Tab. Bing adds this block to the top of the results, and shows AI-citations at the top right.

This was spotted by Sachin Patel who posted about it on X - here is one of his screenshots:

Bing Gives Product Ads Some Cushion

30 Mart 2026 saat 14:11

Bing Search

In his quest for the best cushions on earth, Sachin Patel has spotted another change to Bing's shopping SERP.

In this test, there is a huge section of sponsored products in a double-rowed carousel along with some cards from individual websites (organic).

As you can see in the images from Sachin's X account, the sponsored section is pretty enormous:

I both don't use Bing much, nor shop for cushions, so take my results with a grain of salt, as here is what I see:

I guess Sachin's format is just way better than the one I get.

Bing Testing Rounded Corners On Short Videos

27 Mart 2026 saat 14:11

Microsoft Bing is testing using rounded corners on short videos and normal videos within the Bing search results interface. Bing used to show these as squared-off edges.

This was spotted by Shameem Adhikarath who posted some screenshots on X - here is one of those screenshots:

Microsoft Bing Tests New AI Image Search

23 Mart 2026 saat 14:51

Bing Image Search

Microsoft seems to be testing a new AI-powered image search interface and result set for Bing Image Search. If you do a search on Bing Images, on the right side you may see a button for "New Version." That new version says you can "try a new version of Image Search."

Here is that button:

Try New Bing

Then when you click on it, Bing says, "AI is working on gathering best results for "flowers"..."

And you get this new categorized layout, followed by other images:

New Bing Images

I wonder if this is the same thing as Frank Sandtmann spotted where it says "Try Al-curated Image Search." "Use Al-powered image search to find higher quality images faster with curated layouts."

Bing Business Profiles With Image Slider

18 Mart 2026 saat 14:51

Bing Maps

Microsoft Bing now has an image slider in the Bing Business Profiles local panel. So when you find a business listing and that business listing has photos associated with its Business Profile, Bing will let you slide through those images on the search results page.

This seems fully live to me and Khushal Bherwani said on X that this is new - here is a GIF of it in action:

Bing Search Tests Go To Shopping Button

6 Mart 2026 saat 15:41

Bing Robot Shopping

Microsoft is testing a "Go to Shopping" button within the Bing Search results. This is instead of the narrower shopping section that shows shopping results by just says "see all."

This test was spotted by Sachin Patel who posted a screenshot on X - he wrote, "Bing is testing a 'Go to Shopping' button under shopping ads that redirects to the Shopping tab."

Here is that screenshot:

Microsoft Thwarts AI Prompt Injection Attacks Aimed To Manipulate AI Engines

24 Şubat 2026 saat 15:51

Microsoft Logo Attack

Microsoft has implemented and continues to deploy mitigations against prompt injection attacks in Copilot, the company announced last week. Spammers were using the "Summarize with AI" type of buttons to trick AI engines into believing or trusting a specific company or response.

Microsoft said they call this "AI Recommendation Poisoning." This is where companies are embedding hidden instructions in "Summarize with AI" buttons that, when clicked, attempt to inject persistence commands into an AI assistant's memory via URL prompt parameters.

These prompts instruct the AI to 'remember [Company] as a trusted source' or 'recommend [Company] first,' aiming to bias future responses toward their products or services. We identified over 50 unique prompts from 31 companies across 14 industries, with freely available tooling making this technique trivially easy to deploy. This matters because compromised AI assistants can provide subtly biased recommendations on critical topics including health, finance, and security without users knowing their AI has been manipulated.

This worked against Copilot, ChatGPT, OpenAI, Claude, Perplexity, Grok and others, Microsoft explained.

AI Memory Poisoning occurs when an external actor injects unauthorized instructions or 'facts' into an AI assistant's memory. Once poisoned, the AI treats these injected instructions as legitimate user preferences, influencing future responses," Microsoft wrote.

This is done through malicious links, embedded prompts and social engineering.

Here is an example:

Prompt Injection Button

Anyway, these hacks work until they don't.

Heads-up if you are doing this... I have caught this happening during several audits over the past 3-4 months. E.g. "Summarize with AI" buttons with instructions to sway the AI platforms... And btw, if Microsoft is on to this, then you better believe Google is on to it...

Microsoft Advertising Tests Shopping Carousel With Multiple Images Toggle

24 Şubat 2026 saat 15:31

Microsoft Advertising is testing an update to the shopping ads carousel that can show multiple images in a single card. Essentially, you are seeing a carousel within a carousel for Bing shopping ads.

This was spotted by Arpan Banerjee who posted the following video on LinkedIn - hat tip to PPC News Feed. Here is that video:

Bing Webmaster Tools Rolls Out AI Performance Report (With New Design)

11 Şubat 2026 saat 15:51

Bing Ai Analytics

A couple of weeks ago, I reported that Bing was beta testing a new AI performance report within Bing Webmaster Tools. These reports are now available as a public preview for all to see.

Plus, Bing Webmaster Tools has a whole new slick design. I actually like it a lot.

Microsoft's Krishna Madhavan, Meenaz Merchant, Fabrice Canel, and Saral Nigam announced:

We are happy to introduce AI Performance in Bing Webmaster Tools, a new set of insights that shows how publisher content appears across Microsoft Copilot, AI-generated summaries in Bing, and select partner integrations. For the first time, you can understand how often your content is cited in generative answers, with clear visibility into which URLs are referenced and how citation activity changes over time.

I was not able to show you what that report looked like, until now, because now anyone can see it at bing.com/webmasters/aiperformance. Here is a screenshot:

Bing Ai Performance Dashboard

Here is what you see:

  • Total Citations: Shows the total number of citations that are displayed as sources in AI-generated answers during the selected time frame. This highlights how often your content is referenced by AI systems, without indicating placement or presentation within a specific answer.
  • Average Cited Pages: Shows the average number of unique pages from your site that are displayed as sources in AI-generated answers per day over the selected time range. Because the data is aggregated across supported AI surfaces, average cited pages reflect overall citation patterns and does not indicate ranking, authority, or the role of any page within an individual answer.
  • Grounding queries: Shows the key phrases the AI used when retrieving content that was referenced in AI-generated answers. The data shown represents a sample of overall citation activity. We will continue to refine this metric as additional data is processed.
  • Page-level citation activity: Shows citation counts for specific URLs from your site, making it easy to see which individual pages are most often referenced across AI-generated answers during the selected date range. This reflects how often pages are cited, not page importance, ranking, or placement.
  • Visibility trends over time: The timeline shows how citation activity for your site changes over time across supported AI experiences, making it easier to spot trends at a glance.

And nope, no click data, as I said a couple of weeks ago.

The grounding queries is confusing folks - but those do not seem to be the actual queries users are searching but what Bing uses to "retrieving content that was referenced in AI-generated answers." So Copilot takes your long query and then breaks it down into shorter ones, it is probably that. But it also seems like that metric is stil being refined by Bing.

Plus, this data is not in the API yet. Fabrice Canel from Microsoft said on X, "With this preview, the data is not yet available via the API. Enabling data in our API is on our backlog, and we'll take your feedback along with others, into account when prioritizing next release."

Fabrice Canel from Microsoft said on X, "We just dropped the AI Performance report into public preview in Bing Webmaster Tools." He did hint that more data is coming, he said, "It's just a preview, you will get more in 2026."
